Sylvain

Sylvain Dessane (1989) started his musical studies with the piano at the age of 8 and started to play the viola one year later. At the age of 18, he joined the class of Isabelle Lequien at the Boulogne-Billancourt conservatoire (France), and had lessons with Michel Michalakakos. There, he studied also music theory, music history, music analysis with Naji Hakim, writing, sight reading, orchestra and chamber music. In this period Sylvain also studied organ with Jean-Philippe Mesnier. After having done an Erasmus exchange with Rivka Golani at the Trinity College of Music in London, Sylvain Dessane obtained in 2011 his diploma of musical studies (DEM) in Boulogne-Billancourt. Since september 2011, he studies with Liesbeth Steffens at the Koninklijk Conservatorium of Den Haag, and also with Mikhail Zemtsov. He obtained his bachelor degree in 2014. Since September 2014, he studies with Sven Arne Tepl in Amsterdam Conservatory.

During his musical life, Sylvain always played in different orchestras with e.g. Jac van Steen, Evelyne Aïello, François-René Duchable, Lawrence Foster, Martin Zieghart, Suzanne Mälkki. Also interested in musical education, he followed lessons with Koosje van Haeringen and Julia Stegeman, and teaches regularly. His love for chamber music led him to play in many chamber music groups, with whom he got lessons from Hortense Cartier-Bresson, Bertrand Raynaud, Isaac Rodrigez, Prof. Eberhard Feltz, Vladimir Bukac, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Jerry Horner, Richard Ireland, Stefan Metz, Marc Danel, Sandor Devich, Peter Cropper, Luc Marie Aguera, Yovan Markovich, Jonathan Brown, Abel Tomàs, Arnau Tomàs, Vera Martinez, Rainer Schmidt, Natalia Prishepenko, Heime Müller, Hariolf Schlichtig…

Sylvain is now the violist of the Aristos Quartet with whom he obtained a string quartet master in Amsterdam Conservatorium and NSKA (2015). After two years of following the post academic course of the Dutch String Quartet Academy (NSKA), he graduated together with his quartet in May 2017. In this formation he gave a lot of concerts in different places and festivals such as the Muziekgebouw aan\’t IJ, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht, the Edinburgh festival, the Orlando Festival, the Tiberius week in Romania, Festival Classique, the Rencontres Musicales ProQuartet and the festival Janine Jansen in Utrecht.
